I agree, the guy shouldn't be carrying a firearm. He didn't decide not to shoot he just froze and didn't. If a guy walks up to you at 0300 in a parking lot and starts asking if you're a Muslim or from the Middle East that should be the red flag right there to be ready to act. Pellet gun or not the guy would've been hurt, maybe not shot but hurt none the less BEFORE he used the pellet gun. That's just me though.

I'm with you. Never take your eyes off a threat and that guy was definitely a threat.

I'm a full believer of "If you draw be ready to kill.".. However, I am also a believer of "Most attackers will stop with even the sight of the firearm."...

This guy should have drawed... took control of the situation.. and not just clammed up. He got lucky. If he didn't think "Blowing him away" was right... Sure.. ok... but that's a decision I would have made after I drew my firearm and pointing at this asshole.

My finacee is half Indian... this kind of hits home for me.

I wonder if someone pulled a 22lr (with or without a can) and started shooting if I could tell the difference between it and a CO2 powered pellet gun in that instant. I do know this. He was verbally assaulted and saw a gun. I might have reacted differently under those circumstances.

My thoughts are related to the notion of 'hate' crimes.
IMO thats a stupid concept.
If I drag a man down the road on a chain behind my pickup truck does it really matter if he is jewish, gay, irish, black, catholic, baptist, lutheran, bi sexual, or italian?? It involves the hate no matter what. Its the same exact crime no matter what. The notion of hate crimes is a silly special interest group notion that the same crime is different if the victim falls into some specified category. Rubbish. We have set some really dangerous precedents in this area.

Beyond that, I think this crime victim was being very considerate. I tend to think he did the 'right' thing....but I am sure it wasnt easy to do. Not sure what I would do. Hope to never find out.

I hate to Monday-morning-quarterback without knowing more details, but I would have to agree at this point that the individual failed to be fully aware of his surroundings and did not react , at least as I might have, to red flag actions of the aggressor.

I personally think the stories facts have been altered. The good thing is this guy didnt unjustly take a life. And if he was a muslim and was unjustly killed had the pellet gun been real... he still wins

I disagree. It boils down to motive. There are some genuinely bad people that are equal opportunity criminals and then there are some that hate various groups of people, racial, sexual orientation, etc. The crime itself isn't different but the motive is. Same way that pre-mediated murder is worst than regular murder. At least thats my take.

I blame the city of Lutz. They need to take a closer look at their blue laws. Why was Walmart even allowed to be open at 3 AM? No one goes to Walmart at that time of the morning unless they're looking for trouble. Why was there no curfew in place? You cannot just allow foreigners to wander the streets in the middle of the night without expecting consequences.....especially when they are armed with a killing tool such as a .45 cal handgun. Since the guy with the .45 chose not to use it to defend himself, it brings up another more serious question. Why was he carrying it into Walmart at 3 AM in the first place? Could it be that he was going in there for more than just a bag of Skittles? Did they check his car to see if there was anything else of interest there? Many people who own .45 caliber handguns are also inclined to purchase AR 15 assault rifles.

It appears that there were a lot of breakdowns in government safeguards here. Perhaps it was all coincidental... or perhaps not.
It would be interesting to know if the alleged victim was a government employee.
