What is the dumbest thing you've seen/heard in a gun shop?

Had a employee at a local gun store where I was buying a gun told me he had to run a background check on me even though I handed him my Ga permit. He said he had to do it because I was not in my county of residence. He said it was illegal if he didnt do it,,,,I called him a idiot and walked out and went 2 miles down the road bought the same gun,,,No questions asked.
I have had a few stores call NICS even with my permit, not sure why they haven't gotten the message.

over off moreland there is a pawn shop with cobra .380s selling for 230 dollars

but the dumbest thing i heard is from a customer and the owners dialogue

"i heard if you hold it sideways it wont work right with hollow tips"

"well, hollow tips dont work well at all in any semiautomatic, they werent designed to fire them"

of course i was like wtf and left after that

Conversation I had many moons ago when Ga Range and Guns was a nice place in Gwinnett.

Me: "May I take a look at the 92 FS please"
GA Range and Guns: "Here this Taurus is the same thing."
Me: "That's nice but may I see the Beretta in this case?"
GRG: "This Taurus was made in the Beretta plant, using the same machinery, has a lifetime warranty and costs less."
Me: "Never mind. Have a nice day."

This thread is awesome!!! Thanks to all for sharing your stories! Some are hilarious and some are disturbing. It's crazy how some of these GS are still in business!

How many hours of community service did your reply cost you?

Thank Christ is was on the telephone. Just the other day at a gun store on the north side I had a guy try and tell me that a walther pp with (ulm factory markings) was used in WWII. They did not even open the factory in ulm til the factory in Zella-Mehlis was destroyed in 1944. Even after telling him that and showing him a genuine walther pp from WWII.... He was still saying it was used in WWII

I was at a gun store in LaGrange years ago and was looking for a pistol. They had the one i wanted in OD green but i wanted the black. He told me he would call his supplier and order one and could have it next day. He dialed the phone with it on speaker and the other line picked up faster than expected i imagine. He answered "Pawn City, Valley Al" and he promptly picked it up and ordered on. He was asking $485 for this gun. I drove about 20 miles to the pawn shop in Valley immediately and bought the gun for $375. I had to have it transferred to GA since i was not an AL resident. I quickly had it transferred to the aforementioned store. The next day i picked it up and the same gentleman who had helped me the day before helped me again. He looked shocked that I had done this and quickly asked me not to tell this story to anyone because "It would be bad for buisness". Ya think!! They have been out of business for about five years now.
