My take on this is that folks really want the cash. So they may take something in trade they have no interest in, but it had better be worth the time and effort to list it and sell it to get the cash they originally wanted in the first place.

Us married guys prefer trades because when the wife finds out you sold something she assumes that money is going to go to the bank or to her for whatever reason. Trades mean I keep getting new toys.
