Why is 6.5 Creedmoor so popular?

Because it's sexier than 6.5 Swiss which performs the same but is a century old, I think

Just wondering why it is so well liked and came onto the market so fast. I see it has a slightly higher ballistic coefficient VS 308 but is that the deciding factor?

It is a good choice for new shooters and new hunters. Guns and ammo are easy to find and affordable. Recoil is not difficult to manage.

308 with small improvements in pretty much every regard except barrel life. Shoots flatter, less wind drift, higher sectional density, higher case efficiency, less recoil. What's not to love?

I'm sure it's a good cartridge. Also like already said, a new twist on an old cartridge. Just something "new" for people to buy.

We basically had one for years (260) but it didn’t catch on kinda back in the 7 mag error with the 280

Faster, flatter, less wind deflection, higher retained energy downrange, higher SD and bc, not finicky past 800 like 30 cal 168's, and all in a package that has less recoil. The 6 - 7mm projectiles are in a ballistic sweet spot. The 6.5 cm is very easy and forgiving to load as well.

Basically, it is today what the 308 was 70 years ago. It just does it better.

Mfgs screwed up the twist rate offered in the barrels and doomed the 260 in the civilian market pretty quickly.
