Why is everyone ditching the 300 BO

Name a better caliber for shooting in the 100-300 yard range out of an 8" barrel in the AR platform?

I, for one, can't. But there again, the thought / need / desire to shoot that type of platform at 300yds has never occurred to me.

I could be way off here....but I always thought the reason why we see so many 300 blackout guns for sale is the same reason why we see so many AR pistols. They are homebuild projects with cheap or inferior parts and the guns won’t run.

It takes some work with gas, springs and buffers to get these guns to run ultra-reliable and folks aren’t willing to do the work of swapping springs, buffers etc. They slap a gun together following a YouTube video with the cheapest parts they can find, take it to the range it hangs up every 2-5 rounds. So they turn around and sell it.

I always wonder about the homebuilts that are sold “never fired”. Really ? You spent all that time building a gun and never fired it? C’mon you can sell that, but I ain’t buying that.

Other reasons are as many have already said: 1) ammo costs 2) I was gonna get a suppressor 3) gun guys have ADD - we all want something bad until a new shinny object comes along that attracts out attention

Assembling a short term reliable AR is super easy, just use a barrel with a over sized gas port and it will eat anything for at least several hundred rounds or more until the excess pressure starts to prematurely wear parts out. PSA has been doing this for years.

Really? I always thought 0-300 yards was the ideal range of the AR platform.
I think it’s technically 300 meters.
But I don’t have any real idea how much difference that is.
In a quality barrel I figure it’s more limited by bullet and cartridge quality and design.
