Window vs. glass replacement.

What’d you end up doing?

Our house has issues with uneven heating/cooling. I know the seals on some windows have failed because they’re cloudy. I’m trying to figure out if it’s a draft issue or uneven insulation issue. Or something else more expensive I hadn’t yet considered .

“Buy a home,” they said. “Enjoy the tax write offs,” they said ………….
So, long story short, the windows that are in my home are no longer available, meaning, I cannot swap out the glass ( sash ), without changing the channel assemblies that the windows slide in or the entire window frame and all.
The 5 windows I have, that have lost their seal and fogged would be just under $2K plus labor so, maybe 3K, glass and channels only.

The same 5 from Anderson, installed, 14K. Whole house, 23 windows over 60K!!
I will tell you, these are extremely nice windows, thick glass, 98% gas fill, tinted, colored frames. Top of the line but damn.

Still looking at options.

Have a friend that went sash replacement vs full cause of cost. He regrets that choice. He said it’s like looking thru a square port hole on some because the amount the clear view shrunk

We went Anderson in our home. Yes we dropped some coin. It was worth it in my opinion after all the ones I seen.

60k? Holy ****!

Update for those considering window replacement.
Renewal by Anderson. 3 plus hour visit. 22 windows. Really nice product, considerable upgrade from a builder grade window. composite design. Only 20 year warranty. 54k whole house installed.

Champion Windows, 3 hour visit. All vinyl, seemed well built but more of a builder grade in my opinion. I’d say they are a slight upgrade from builder grade. Whole house $52K. Lifetime warranty. Even if you throw a rock through it.

Both presentations were identical. Both companies try very hard to pressure you into a same day deal. If the rep doesn’t get you to sign, they will either call their supervisor to pressure you or there will be same day follow up calls. It is as if they know that if they don’t get you to sign on the spot, they have little chance of making the sell. I do no cave to those tactics.

Probably going to have window world come out next, might try a local building supply product as well.
