Both stocks had screw holes that were wallowed out. I mixed up a 2-part epoxy, filled the holes, and drove small wooden dowels as tightly packed as I could get into the holes.
Let the epoxy harden overnight, and drilled for the new screws.
Installed the recoil pads, cut off the large excess with a hacksaw, then used a belt sander and hand sanding for the remainder.
Put 3 layers of tape around the stock, and used the belt sander to sand the pads down until I was hitting the tape, Then, I switched to a single layer of tape, and hand-sanded for a nice, close fit.
The dark stock is on a custom rifle built on a 1903 Springfield in 7x57mm. That’s all the work I did on it.
The lighter stock in the other two pics is on an LE trade-in Remington 870 Police Magnum that I completely refurb’ed. She was a beater, but mechanically sound. Replaced all the springs, and Cerakoted in Midnight Bronze. Took a cut down stock from the same lot of trade-in 870’s and stripped it down for complete refinishing. I chose not to remove every ding and dent from the wood, leaving some character to it. The owner is SBS’ing this one, with a new Vang Comp 14” barrel. I’ll post some pics once he gets his Form 1 approved and puts it all together.
