I hate the lingering anesthetic way worse than getting the shot...once the dentist is done...I want the numbness to go away immediately so I do whatever I want. Unfortunately...it rarely works that way.
If the cavities are near the gumline...believe me, you want to be numb. If they are deep...you want to be numb. If they are shallow and on top of your teeth - meaning not near a nerve channel, then it's more of a vibration annoyance than pain. Get closer to the nerve...give me the needle over...
And depending on where the cavities are...and how sensitive your teeth are...it's completely possible to have a filling done without being numbed. I've had three done in a sitting without any sort of numbing. Not a huge deal for me...
