Hey, I am new to this whole site and not sure if I am doing this right.... Hopefully I am... So.... I am looking to get a 1911 22.... I first shot the Kimber Conversion Kit and LOVED IT! (I carry a Kimber.... so I'm a little partial to them)... I have seen the GSG.... read and heard good things.... I have looked at a Chippa... and I wasn't quite impressed.... with the plastic mags and the overall feel of the pistol... a buddy told me about Browning coming out with a 1911 22... don't know if I should wait for the kinks to get worked out... so that is my issue.... if you have any knowledge of these or have any other suggestions please let me know... Thanks!!!! :)

The quality of the Kimber drop in unit is hands down better than most of the dedicated 1911 .22LR's. They are very accurate and only the higher end drop-in units best them in accuracy like the Marvel unit. The benefits of the Kimber are that you’re working the same trigger, grip and controls, so if your Kimber is also your carry/HD weapon then the familiarization is priceless. You can order them off Gunbroker for around $300 or less.

There are a couple of other conversion units. Tactical solutions, Advantage Arms and Ciener. Pro's and cons for each but if I was trying to rank them then they are in ranking order as is. TS:http://www.tacticalsol.com/products/22-lr-conversions?page=shop.browse&category_id=10

Ciener:http://www.22lrconversions.com/1911-pg.htm

If you just want an inexpensive beater 1911 .22 then you have a couple of choices to make. Currently, the GSG is the one I would consider. Here is a first person's experience: http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=277715

You can drop a bunch of bones on a Marvel unit but the accuracy is equivalent to a Smith and Wesson model 41 and a nice S&W model 41 can run you close to a grand nowadays. It is in my opinion the best conversion unit that is currently in production. Here is a link to the Marvel unit http://www.marvelprecision.com/unit1.php

Oh yeah, welcome to the trader!

^^^^This^^^^ Kimber conversion and never look back.

Thanks for the info! The only prob. with the conversion kit for Kimber is that my Kimber is a compact... What about the new Sig 1911 22?.... the price is comparable to the GSG...

I just called Kimber to verify, but the .22 conversion kit will fit my Kimber CDP II compact. The mag just sticks out about a 1/2 inch. Unless you have an Ultra, a Kimber conversion kit should work just fine.

Just to throw a little Chiappa opinion at you, I would say don't do it, and why do all these 1911 .22's and other cool looking .22 pistols not shoot bulk ammo well?

i picked up a chippa last week and it's pretty good so far.

I ran bulk federal and even winchester through it and it only had 2 feed issues, both were due to bullets not seated all the way, so OAL was too long and they cought on the ramp.
I ran about 350-400 rds through it and it is a good little plinker.
