30-06 vs 308 for whitetail

We all know 9mm is the superior self defense round but how does the 30-06 vs 308 battle shakeout in regards to whitetail hunting?

What say the ODT?

Considered getting a 308 for deer and target shooting, but I think I'm going to get a 6.5 C.

Emotions removed from the discussion, I would say there is very little if any discernable difference in performance on whitetails.
Ammo choices are vast for both calibers and reloading even greater.. Remember the projectile is the exact same.. a 308 is just a 3006 short.. LOL
Flip a coin and go put some meat in the freezer..

My brother likes 30 06 I like 308. From what I've seen 30 06 is a little more forgiving if you are shooting minute of deer but either will take any game the southeast has to offer. 30 06 appears to be a bit more devastating than 308 imo. I still like 308 better.

I promise whatever deer you shoot with either won't be able to tell you the difference.

1,000 deer were shot with each and then surveyed. None of the deer could ascertain which cartridge had killed them. A slightly larger percentage guessed '06 but there was a nostalgia bias suspected.
