30-06 vs 308 for whitetail

1,000 deer were shot with each and then surveyed. None of the deer could ascertain which cartridge had killed them. A slightly larger percentage guessed '06 but there was a nostalgia bias suspected.

Yea, 3006 recoil is not for the weak.. HAHA So I load a 130 gr TSX in my 06.. 55 grains of Varget with BR2 Primer.. DRT recipe.

No discernible difference to the deer. I have a very slight preference for the 308 simply because it's short action and is a current military cartridge.

I'm a big fan of the 3006 ,but the 308 works just as good with less recoil :0)

I say .308 is "better" because you can get cheap steel cased ammo and old military surplus anmo and hone your skills at shooting from field positions, rather than over sandbags across a bench.

Cheap .30-06 was a thing when I was a kid, but it's all dried up now.

Most people will get more trigger time if they're only paying 40 cents a round instead of a dollar per round.
