AAC or Liberty?

SilencerCo. Sparrow. I have Liberty Kodiak and love it, but the Sparrow breaks down to clean easier than any other. If you just going to use the can on rifles, then step up to a 223 can if you afford it - you now have a can for your AR and Savage rifles.

I am not so sure about what they claim (sparrow)

* tested with Walther P22, CCI Standard Velocity, 70 degrees, 5100' elevation.

I have not used any of the 22lr cans but from the silencer reports I have read, the builders are bumping it up a db or so for advertisement. I just find it hard to believe 41

Anyone ever fire these? I am really interested in this thread as I am in the market as well. It would just piss me off to know if I selected a different brand or paid an extra $100 I could have gotten 5 db less.

the 223 can will be quite a bit heavier and longer than a dedicated 22lr can but like everything it's a trade off. do you want it light weight or less money, etc.

223 and 17hmr will both have a sonic crack, but at least you can shoot them without the same amount of hearing protection and less recoil/flash..

I'd go AAC personally, but full disclosure: I'm a huge AAC fanboy. That being said their silencers are the best on the market quality wise.

I guess thats why my can was out of spec straight from the factory. I was told by AAC that it would take 2 weeks to fix but it took over 2 months and a ton of calls.... Quality wise David at Liberty kicks AAC's butt.....

You do understand that the AAC Element is not rated for 17HMR. In fact, no AAC rimfire cans are rated for anything above .22LR, the Silencerco Sparrow is.

Do not let everyone talk you into a 5.56 can for rimfire. Imagine a one pound weight at the end of your Savage 17?

Go with the sparrow for all of your rimfire needs. You will end up getting more hosts for the can.

I'd be inclined to try the full auto rated(.22LR, rimfire magnums to 5.7 & .22 Hornet) Coastal Hornet for a quite bit less $$ than the Sparrow.

I'd like to see a side by side, ammo/gun comparison of the Sparrow to the Hornet.

Tests can be manipulated by the manufacturer, a bunch of guys in a field swapping can around on the same gun will reveal alot.

The Liberty Kodiak is FA rated for rimfire. The Kodiak is an awesome can, it is just difficult to get the core out if you don't do it on a regular basis. The sleeve design of the Sparrow elimates this problem. A major negative with the Sparrow however is the o-rings - these will replaced at some point, the Kodiak has no viton rings that will need replaced. Liberty's cs is bar-none and I have always had a quick turnaround on all work. I enjoy supporting locally owned business especially when they are run by folk like David and Teresa.
