AAC or Liberty?

The Liberty Kodiak is FA rated for rimfire. The Kodiak is an awesome can, it is just difficult to get the core out if you don't do it on a regular basis. The sleeve design of the Sparrow elimates this problem. A major negative with the Sparrow however is the o-rings - these will replaced at some point, the Kodiak has no viton rings that will need replaced. Liberty's cs is bar-none and I have always had a quick turnaround on all work. I enjoy supporting locally owned business especially when they are run by folk like David and Teresa.

Sparrow's O-rings can be replaced from SilencerCo or you can just drive to you local Fastenal store and pick some up or order them online for much cheaper from MSC or McMaster Carr

SilencerCo. Sparrow. I have Liberty Kodiak and love it, but the Sparrow breaks down to clean easier than any other. If you just going to use the can on rifles, then step up to a 223 can if you afford it - you now have a can for your AR and Savage rifles.

Sparrow is nice for a .22 and like he says , you can break it down and clean it your self.

liberty cans are top notch. my liberty mag had ZERO windage shift. i simply add .3mil on the gun and run my usual drop chart. DEAD ON out to my farthest 966yd. target.David/Teresa are great people as well. go liberty!!!!!!!

.22 cans are a tough choice . . . there's plenty out there and most of the top tier ones are within 2-3db of each other.

The AAC element is the quietest choice
The Silencerco Sparrow is the easiest to take apart/clean

The Kodiak isn't either of these and is an inch to inch and a half longer than both the element and the sparrow. To me, I wouldn't take a kodiak if I got one for free considering the $200 stamp tax.

I'm sure it is somewhat host dependent but I don't think you will hear enough difference in these 3 to matter. I would choose based more on feature set and customer service than Db reduction.

I have tested an Element, a Sparrow, and a Kodiak TL numerous times. I really don't mean to sound like a Liberty hater but the Kodiak is downright awful metering at the muzzle. On my bruel and kaier I'm getting 127db FRP, ~121 10 shot average and I've metered it 8 times with all similar results. Liberty said that the Kodiak's got machined incorrectly and mine indeed was, sent it back and it metered the same (something with some type of insert in the blast chamber). IMO, the only reason it is even mentioned is because it is very long and has a tapered bore. Both of which contribute greatly to sounding at the ear like a very good can.

I've metered the element 28 times, sparrow 17. At no point have I ever seen the sparrow meter quieter than the element.

I have an Essence and sparrow. The essence may be a tad quiter but it absolutely disappears on teh end of my pistol barrels. The sparrow, even though a bit shorter and only 2 oz heavier is much more noticeable from a weight standpoint on the end of my handguns. Not sure what a machine says, but the liberty is just a bit quieter to my ear and everyone else that has listened. The difference is so small, I don't think it matters. Of course this is the essence which is more expensive than the kodiak TL. The FRP is less than the sparrow. Customer service of silencerco and liberty is much better than aac in my experience. I own an AAC can but only because I got a killer price on it. I hate the look of the element too, JMO. It confused me when you stated you wouldnt take a free kodiak. It led me to believe you have something against liberty altogether. I would accept a free can from any major manufacturer.

Very true . . . without a meter and/or shooting one right after the other its very hard to tell. 117db to 120db is only slightly recognizable.

I hate the look of the element too, JMO.

Lots of people do . . . I personally understand why they did what they did (reduce weight in the tube) but it does come across as kind of a sewer pipe looking thing.

It led me to believe you have something against liberty altogether. I would accept a free can from any major manufacturer.

I have nothing against liberty . . . I met them at last year's silencer shoot (the one no one went to ) but I haven't been impressed with a Kodiak on the meter. It does sound good at the ear but its very disappointing when you listen to the side of it compared to a sparrow/element and notice how much louder and longer it is.

I wouldn't take a Kodiak because I would have to pay the stamp tax for it

I don't really know that I would buy any .22 can . . . they are all expensive and its way too easy to make a good one (provided you have a form 1 done of course)
