I finally bought one of these and have to say it works great. It cooks a turkey just as good as deep fried(maybe better) but no need to buy oil, clean up oil etc etc. I highly recommend. I did a test bird this weekend to get a feel for time and now I am ready for thursday. I also "fried" and pork rib roast and it came out fantastic. Super easy cooking and very little clean up. I have seen these on sale for $99, so if you look around you can get them pretty cheap.

I've been kicking that idea around. Academy had them for $99 the other day. I just dropped $50 on peanut oil for the fryer and dread the mess!

Test bird? Turkey is too expensive to waste one on a test. I’d be using that one for Thursday.

What were your test results?? Temperature, time, weight of the bird?? Inquiring minds need to know
First off, I did a brine for about 18hrs and used a cajun injector along with a dry rub on the outside. Next time I will get some of the rub under the skin as well.

Test bird was 17# and I cooked on full blast for 1:30-1:40. The included thermometer(not great) said it was done so I removed it and let it rest per directions. Ultimately it was not cooked all the way through. The skin and outer meat was fantastic but have to bail on the inner meat for safety reasons.
As you can see, the top is a wire mesh. The cold outside temp and wind will require you to run a little longer too.

That’s the only way we cook them for the last 6-8 years.

They are perfect.

Take the oil back & get the Big Easy.

You’ll kick yourself for not doing it last year.

Ours is on the back deck & was cleaned last Sunday in preparation.
