I fish the Hooch all the time. I am a full time fishing guide on the rivers of North Georgia. I will say the Hooch is by far my favorite River. I will fish from Buford dam down to Columbus. I know and have been too almost every boat ramp in that stretch.

Yes there are headless goats sometimes. Yes there is E.coli sometimes, mainly after rain storms. But it is also a great river that is very underutilized. And that even includes the fact that the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area gets about 3.1 million visitors a year.

All the people that say how nasty he Chattahoochee is have obviously never been fishing out of Venice, LA. The greatest fishing location the continental USA has to offer. They have obviously never been to the Coosa River up in Rome, Ga. Or down to Savanah.

It's ok it keeps allot of the people off the river and out of my hair.
I hate using the term expert. But I know the river (the Good, the Bad and the Ugly) Better than almost anyone.

I have worked with the River Keepers to help protect or drinking water for over 10 years now.

I am working with the CRK this Saturday to do a clean up south of the City. Instead of complaining how nasty it is, You should get out and help make it better.

I am also a sponsor to this forum and have my own section down at the bottom.

I am in for a slice of carp pie. LOL Just kidding! Heck they tell you not to eat over 3 serving of fish a week from all the mercury present in a lot of fish species. Heck you can't get much worse than that. Those are some monster stripper. Looks like a plethora of great game fish. I didn't know that so you have me convinced. I don't think I will grilling up any flat heads but might be game for trout up north of Helen.

Thanks to allot of hard work by volunteers, the CRK, and those bloody lawyers. The Hooch it cleaner today than it has been in probably 100 years.

Here is the website if you want to get involved. https://chattahoochee.org/

Being a lifetime Hunter and fisherman and hard-core during my youth I can't stand the though of what man kind can do to our natural resources. It's putrid to think about. Mainly big business dumping crap into the streams and rivers but also people using it as their personal landfill. It's the same up here where I live. I live close to a paper mill and for years they had just abused the river. Georgia Pacific bought the factory and the EPA dropped the hammer. Its coming back strong and is a great fishery especially north of the mill. About 15 minutes from me north where the James and another river mingle the water is crystal clear with breath taking views. It's coming straight down the Mt. there so its still about as clean a you can get for America. I haven't been actively hunting for a few years but now that I have access to private land and don't have to worry aboutnp some trigger happy Hunter shooting a blaze orange deer, that is going to change. I just sat down and talked to the man who lives on that property today. He has sliced the land up and given it to his sons but they are life time friends and they don't mind. They know I won't abuse the land.
