Anyone else get their property tax statement today?

I changed my voter registration to DIMocRAT and got an immediate 40% reduction in my property taxes.

Don’t laugh anyone. This is the plan of “Equity”.

You may remember it as something like , “ from each according to their ability to each according to their needs”

Just look at the Buckhead-exit debacle for how “Equity “ works.

EQUITY is code for SOCIALISM.

Just got an *updated* statement in the mail today with a reduction/correction because my homestead exemption wasnt tallied correctly so its only about a 60% increase as opposed to the 80% increase

I was told to expect a 30% increase since Georgia was forcing the county to up it's values to reflect state values, figure that one out. The actual increase came in at 37.6% but the appraisal was still under what I paid for it so, one year at the increase then the deduction kicks in for over 65.

There are no "state values". The state requires the counties to assess property at a certain percentage of it's fair market value, which usually trails real value just due to the machinery of getting it all done.

The state monitors sales in all counties to make sure they are not fudging on the assessment, which is 40%. It's just a mathematical exercise that is a hold over from the former way of assessing property taxes, where each "class" of property was "assessed" at a different rate -farmland and timberland being assessed at ridiculously low rates. Now it's all 40%.

We appealed ours. We got them down on the land first just with a few calls and emails. On the house, based on comparables we found, we were able to show they should drop our home value by about 15%.

They came out the other day to take pictures for the appeal, and the guy told me we should get down to our appeal on the house, or very close. Still too high but better than it was.
