Mine is a 2012 Yukon Denali 1500 XL. Complete pain in the ass. So far the front tires are off and have to remove the wheel well covers. Lots of videos on YOUTUBE about the driver side removal. Gee I wonder why? Could be that the passenger takes so long you run out of video time on YOUTUBE.
Passenger side"
Tire off
Wheel well cover off
Starter removed and hanging out of the way
Jack with a piece of wood to lift the engine up so you can get to all 4 bolts mounting it to the block.

Had to also remove:
Battery removed
Oil dipstick tube removed
Sensors removed
Engine jacked as high as it will go without doing damage to things on top
Still had to disassemble the motor mount by removing two 15mm bolts that hold the aluminum heat shield to the mount. Once separated into its pieces you can then removed the pieces.

What a bitch!

Another middle finger and a big **** you to GMC engineers that made these engine mounts with oil filled rubber instead of solid old school rubber ones.

No but that's a thought. I'm changing the mounts because I could feel a stumbling of the engine through the steering wheel. I had someone place the emergency break on and put the truck in drive and then give it gas. When the engine torqued, the driver's side of the engine picked up about 2 inches. It was crazy. 13 yr old mounts and they are bad.

That's just not limited to GMC. That's all types of cars out there with repairs 10 times harder than what you went through there. You just didn't have a shop with a lift and all those good tools to work with. Plus doing anything for the first time is always the worst experience there is. But once you've done it a couple times you figure out the tricks and shortcuts that nobody else has figured out. And since it's a truck you probably have a lot more room to work with than say a engine mount on a car where the engine is just stuffed into the engine compartment. That's when it starts getting difficult. However, I know what kind of a job it is and it is aggravating and very time consuming. It does leave a nasty taste in your mouth and you're not the best of moods when you're finished either.

Damn brother…. Doesn’t sound fun at all !! Good luck, I hope it goes easier next time ! (Hopefully you won’t have to do it again )

13 years does sound a little quick for motor mounts to go out especially in the truck. There had to be a defect in the rubber. Maybe an air pocket or crack got back quality control. That's just way too early for a motor mount to fail.
