ar15 legal question

lets say you have an ar15 rifle then buy an ar15 pistol.
since the uppers are so easy to change, could you run into trouble with "intent to manufacture" an unregistered SBR? I've read that having a short upper with a rifle lower, could be intent and that you better have a pistol lower for it.

Depends on how bad they want to go after you, I guess. I wish there was a concrete answer for you, but I don't think there is. Technically, I think you're ok, but how well "technically" translates into the real world, well, I don't know.

I owned both. No problems till you put the AR pistol upper on a stocked rifle lower...

it's the ATF, so I guess try to think of the most ridiculous scenario and assume that would be their course of action

Legally you shouldn't be charged with the scenario you provide but get caught with a pic of you swapping them and bingo or if under oath some says you switched them.
