Are Simple/cheap pickup trucks gone forever?

A lot of the bare bones trucks are service vehicles (shops and stuff), find a used one several years old with under 100k miles.

My brother in law bought a new 2016 Tahoe LTZ, got 0% interest for 72 months but had to pay the sticker price, which was $72,000. So his payment is $1000 per month. He owns a successful business so I guess he can afford it, but I'd be sick to my stomach if I knew I had to make a car payment that was that much every month.......

Id love to have one of those new pick up trucks with all the bells and whistles but I’m happy with my man parts and I’d rather have the option of buying a bare bones workhorse that won’t be like paying off a house note.
Does such a new truck exist or are the days of a simple pick up trucks gone forever?
Oh and please bring back the damn floor mounted high beam button.

If you own a business and can depreciate the truck or write off mileage that could take some of the sting out of it. But damn! $1000 per month!?!?!?

When I sarted in the car bidness, new car loans were 18 months . With good credit, 24 month loans could be had. And payments were about a mortgage payment on a modest house.
