Best Caliber for DEER hunting in GA.

Surprised I haven't seen anyone mention the .243 yet. I like it and the .270 but it all depends on the terrain and shooter skill but if I had to choose one gun for the state it would be a bolt gun in .270 with a modest scope like 3-9 with AO.

This year will be my first using a .308. Don't know what to expect as every other deer I've killed was with a 7mmRemMag or 300WSM...they never ran, even with a crappy shot when I was younger and just starting.

The Marlin 336 3030 has killed more deer in GA than any other rifle. I would consider a 270. that's a great flat shooting projectile. Its what I hunt with and will always get the job done.

Oh, and the best all-around is a .260 Rem, or something very much like it, with a soft slightly heavy-for-caliber bullet.

I use 270,7x57,308,35rem... All really depends on conditions of where I am hunting

Marlin 336 in .35 Rem or a 30-30

^ THIS ^ - I tend to like the classic Marlin 336 in 30-30. However I've hunted many a year with a 12g slug... a bit more challenging with the slug drop rate.
