They are made out of glass filled nylon, but will it work in place of a basic mil-spec aluminum charging handle? I just bought one for S&G but would still like to know if anybody has used one.

CMMG 22LR charging handle, same as AR15 milspec?

No, I don't think so, not for a 5.56 setup.
My CMMG .22 charging handle is filled in and has no space for the gas part.
Works great for the .22. Keeps it from jamming as often.
