DD Rifle devaluation from spray painting

Only paint guns if you know you will keep them forever or be willing to accept less for it. I only have two painted guns. One I bought at a considerable discount and one that's a part of my bugout plan if the time ever arrives (painted to match the local environment).
Guns are tools. It's almost like being afraid to scratch a wrench.

Not selling one. It is not in my DNA to bring a rattle can even close to a $1900 firearm even if I was keeping it for a lifetime. I would think that it would devalue it at least what the cost is to restore it to PRC (pre rattle can) condition plus some. I would estimate $500.

It destroys the resale value on high end firearms or optics. If it’s a cheap gun you could get away with it. Hell it might even be an upgrade if the finish was really messed up. I wouldn’t even buy a DD if it had a rattle can job unless I was desperate. The value is destroyed.
