deer rifle?

The Brownings I've shot have been very accurate. I've always wanted an 81 BLR in 308. I don't even know why; my .270 does such a great Job as a deer rifle. I guess it's just the look of them

Mine is a model '81 BLR. Yeah they are beautiful to look at, and they are also tack driving machines.

I would not take two .308's for my one .270.

I hunt with my ar15 now that we have so many damn hogs on our property. use to hunt with a Remington 308 or my Browning 7mm mag. You can get off a lot more round with an AR.

30-06, 308, 7mm08, 270

These will get the job done and then some.

If you're not looking for a bolt action (ie something more tactical), I would stick to 308 or one of the boutique highcalibers like 6.5 grendel or 6.8 spc.

I would only use 7.62x39, 300 aac, or 30-30 if they'll be within 100 yards. Only use 556/223 if you're a really good shot.

Fwiw, all of my deer have been taken with a 243, which is not a bad round. I got the rifle as a gift when I was young but if I had it to do over again, I would get a bolt action in one of the calibers listed above - probably 308.
