Yep, and I've caught a lot of crap over it but I still do it periodically. I don't want to damage my hearing permanently but I also don't want to be shocked when I've got to use it and can't tell the BG "Hey buddy, hold up a sec and let me grab my muffs before I shoot ya. Thanks!". Basically this is something I do about once every 3 months or so and I don't shoot a ton of ammo, I do a few mag dumps and call it a day.

I should probably mention I don't do this in an indoor range. I do it out on my property.

I wear hearing pro whenever I shoot (even when hunting) since I went deaf in my right year 2 years ago. I only have one ear now and I'm protective of it.

Losing your hearing sucks.

but have you ever been kicked in the nuts? If so than you already know what to expect.

I've been around enough gunfire without hearing protection and won't do it again if I can help it. I have diminished hearing in my right ear at a relatively young age and I have a hard time picking up a conversation in a crowded bar.

I don't see a benefit to training without hearing protection. In a fight for your life, your ears will be the least of your worries.

No I lost it due to SUDDEN HEARING LOSS...I was at work and there was a loud POP! in my ear and then nothing. When to the ENT doc and I had 90% hearing loss in my ear. I was sent to Emory to a Otologist and after a bunch of tests to rule out infection, Tumors, etc. they tried a steriod treatment which didn't work. I have about gotten use to it, but it still sucks...I cannot enjoy music or movies/TV shows and loud crowded places make me cringe due to overload on my one ear.

oh wow. So it just popped? was it loud at work?

Not alot is known about as it on strikes 5-30 people per 100000 a year.

No, I already have a steady ringing in my ears from not wearing hearing protection when I was younger. Believe me, if it comes time to have to use it, the loud noise won't matter one little bit.
