See, I'm weird. I like my 1911s 5" and blue and won't own a nickel or stainless one, but I prefer my smith to be nickel or stainless with no longer than a 4" barrel. I don't know why.

Changing the color changes the polymer mixture....change the polymer mixture and you change other properties, wether it be strength, or whatever.
Glock actually makes red blue and orange basepads for their mags.
