Here's the 30-30 I used last year. My son will use it this year. I put a Leupold back on it, and the ATN-X is now on my M1A (sorry no picture yet- but soon) so I can get some hogs or coyotes too...

Yep, does just fine. Hornady makes a fine SST 123 grain round or there's a Russian made 154 grain soft point. I'm completely comfortable with the Hornady out to 200yds, the heavier bullet has more of a holdover.

Truthfully though I take a Savage 308 if I expect to make shots much over 150 yards, I feel more comfortable ethically speaking.
