good cheap cars with great mpg

I vote corolla or civic. You can get a pretty decent civic and corolla for around 3k the newer nissans aren't really up to par with Honda and Toyota. If you could find an old sentra with decent miles it should be good. After the late 90's nissans quality dropped off. My brother in laws 99 Altima feels like it's falling apart at 170k miles. The engine still runs great but everything else feels worn out. My friends 92 corolla that has had 250k rough miles ( doing backwards doughnuts, neutral bombs, you name it my friend has done it to it) runs better than the Altima.

say no to NEON.
This^^^ Neons are literally the worst "car" to ever hit the road. Complete and utter peices of crap. Do a simple Google search if you want to find out for yourself.

Go the Honda route. Ive had a bunch of civics/accords/integras from 89 to 2001 and every last one got 28mpg minimum! All were super cheap to maintain. Its so cheap its ridiculous... Never paid more than 3800 for any of them and some were up towrds 300K miles also. Currently driving an 01 accord with 250K nearly a hundred miles each day. No issues here also get good mpg.

We drive honda's at my house.... Also owned Toyota trucks Nissan cars and trucks.... Sold the Mazda s10 and escort pretty quickly.... I work on cars.....oh yea just never considered dodge....

Dakota,

Have you crunched all the numbers to see if its worthwhile and cost efficient? How long would it take after total investment to actually pay for itself and reap benefits of a decent mpg vehicle?

By the time you add up the cost of someone's used up junk, repairs needed to make it reliable, added insurance, added maintenance, and the new dmv sales tax you will pay on it, you may just be better off driving your comfortable, safe Lincoln at a reduced mpg.
