It's available. Black powder pressures for Cowboy Action. Winchester and Remington both offer a 405 gr lead bullet travelling about 1,100 fps. There is a custom loader down in South Georgia that loads it too. Most roll their own due to cost.Is it easy to find ammo for the Trapdoors?

Thank you for that. It's available. Black powder pressures for Cowboy Action. Winchester and Remington both offer a 405 gr lead bullet travelling about 1,100 fps. There is a custom loader down in South Georgia that loads it too. Most roll their own due to cost.
DO NOT use anything loaded for modern lever actions! Those rounds are way too high pressure for your trapdoor. Also, toss or trade off any Hornaday brass you run across if you reload this cartridge. It's too short to get a good seal at the case mouth when firing.
I have a Civil War era Remington Rolling Block that one of my dad's friends dug up when he was digging fish bait. It was wrapped in oil soaked burlap when buried. The stock was rotten and the burlap was gone for the most part. Dad was a machinist and wood worker. He cleaned the metal and made a stock for it. I have it and have shot it. Dad shaved the chamber to chamber a 20 gage shotgun shell. I shot some slugs in it years ago. It would not hit the broad side of a barn but was a hoot to shoot.
There are some real good memories of dad when I hold that Remington.

Oldest one I've shot. Circa 1820. My first gun. Got a round ball mold from Dixie Gunworks.
