Why buy the S&W Governor over the much cheaper, like by ½, Taurus Judge? Both guns appear to be basically the same. Is the quality that much better on the Governor? Or, is it just brand name recognition and reputation??

Both are made well. Both quality firearms, It all Depends on what your NEEDS are. there are Many variations of both. You may need to do a Side by Side comparison to make a decision. just my 2 cents. I am not an Expert.

Governor holds 6, Judge holds 5
Here is a comparison chart I found

With the Smith, you can shoot 45 acp but I think the biggest difference in price is S&W vs Taurus. They might have some ok guns but I would never carry a Taurus.

I disagree. I own 3 Tauruses and they're all fine guns. Love the snubby 605 357. Taurus of old was inferior, but I don't think that's true anymore.
