Have you ever backed out of a sale after meeting with a buyer?

Did just that, met a car late, like 7:30 down 141 at a Burger King, he was buying an AR Pistol. When I spotted the vehicle, its if full, 5-6, really cartellish/gangsta looking lads from south of the border. They had purposely parked behind the burger place in a dark spot of the lot. Luckily, I had, had to switch my intended meet vehicle with another, unknown to him. I drove by and saw enough to make me keep going, I wasn't worried about them robbing me, more ab0ut them using the AR in a gang function, basically putting it in the wrong hands. So, I decided getting a negative / red feedback, would feel better then selling a gun to obvious thugs.

Had a deal I backed out on buying a 1967 Camaro SS 396 L-78 hardtop. I found this car for sale back in the mid 90's, when I was living in Indiana. The body had only 30 or 40K miles on it, but the owner had a 454 for it, not installed. The original motor was gone. Asking price was $7K. I decided to not buy due to work/wife/kids...blah blah blah.

Later, after I moved out of state, I tracked down the guy that bought the car after I looked at it. I gave him my number and said if you want to sell, call me. Another out of state move for me to Atlanta, and this guy calls up about 5 years later and wants to sell for $20K. It is now 2003. I wanted to make a Nickey clone, so $20K for the body was worth it for me. I ask him what did he do to the car since I last saw it in the mid 90's? He said, nothing except put the 454 engine in, tune, and drag race several times. The car is totally stock, with no subframe connectors or roll cage. He said he was pulling low 10 second times.

Now, this seemed odd to me that he ran the car in a stock configuration (no cage/connectors, etc.) and pulled down these quarter mile times.

I borrowed a friends trailer, and leave Atlanta for the 8 hour drive to a 1/2 way point for him and me. When I get there he is eager to get the car off his trailer an onto mine as I had a cashiers check in my pocket. I slowed him down and said I want to look the car over before we move further. As I am inspecting the body (my main concern), we are talking about him drag racing the car, and I am at the back now. I look over the rear quarter alignment, the trunk lid, and the rear tail light panel and it is off, way off, to a point this was not seen in any photos exchanged. The rear quarter literally separated from the rear tail panel on the right side. The torque produced during the quarter mile launches twisted the rear end of the body. I am sure it could have been fixed, but for that price at that time, for me, was already too much invested into a non-matching numbers car.

I told him I couldn't do the deal and showed him the reasoning. I gave him $200 for his portion of the drive for gas because I felt bad that I did not ask for more pictures on the entire body. Probably should not have even given the cash but I was so pissed off by then, it was a long crappy ride back to Atlanta with an empty trailer.

Only once, when I was in Statesboro around 2014. A relatively new member was selling a Savage 22lr that was pretty generic but looked like new in the pictures. When they showed up, they seemed to have pulled a bait and switch. The gun looked like it had been rolling around in gravel in the back of his truck for a week. Felt like such a waste, so I thanked them for their time and left.

Yea, sub frame car. Needed a roll cage for strength

Yes

Met a member to purchase a Unity light switch and noticed the jacket on the wire was cut through. Pointed it out and he acted as if he hadn't noticed. Canceled the deal and left.

Also had a no show as a purchaser recently. Left him neutral feedback because I didn't have to travel far.

I was the seller and the buyer is a well established member here….Worst and I mean worst meet up I’ve ever done…
Sold it cause he threatened negative feed back and I hate hassles in my hobbies…(was a package thing and I removed some of the items to lower the price before he said he’d buy it and he told me I was changing things at the meet…i had changed the ad 1 day before he said he wanted to purchase it)…..so I just bit my tongue and walked away…..
Never will I repeat that mistake again.

Some people with lots of feedback still suck….
And heck I may be one of them …

The pressing or strong arming others in a situation that has no need for it is something I’ve never understood…

I have not ever backed out of a deal. I have had one guy that agreed to a deal and because of the distance said he was having trouble finding a day to come and after about a month of going back and forth finally ghosted me
