My error... It was the naval Su-33 that was produced without licenses as the J-15 (IIRC), using the purchased prototype. Now that I think about it more, Russia wouldn't grant licenses for production of this version (not the Su-27 as you mentioned).Russia sold China the licenses to produce the aircraft on an agreement between the two nations so that way china can legally produce the su-27 and su-30 aircraft.
Another sukhoi prototype was bought from Ukraine when Russia didn't want to sell it because of the reverse engineered su-27. Maybe the su-33? Maybe the su-30. But also just look at the j-35. It's a damn temu F-35 with 2 engines instead of fat Amy's 1.It does seem to my eyes that the Lavi design was shared with China, no matter how hard they deny it.
China bought just enough Su-27s to reverse engineer them. I read they even bought an unused naval prototype from Ukraine. A cheap way to to get a modern & proven design quickly, without doing the design work yourself.![]()
