You may have bent/twisted/deformed the upper on your rifle when torquing the barrel nut. That would definitely cause cycling issues. I know 50 is expensive trouble shooting, but a new stripped upper may solve your issue. I suggest using the appropriate vice block or reaction rod when tightening that nut.
