Large game in SHTF

They cost a lot, but something like a Yeti cooler that can keep ice for a week or so at a time would be invaluable. They will keep ice for a long time in the summer once you cool it down. In a true SHTF situation ice in GA during the summer would be scarce or impossible to make.
I've thought about this a little too... I'm sure every situation is different, but it occurred to me that keeping a fire going and smoking a large quantity of meat is going to draw in the masses if they are near by. Canning and salt curing seem like the lower profile way to go. Of course, we're talking about a heck of a lot of salt to cure an quantity of meat.
Cut thin & dry in the sun?
Less meat, more green stuff.
Kudzu is edible I hear.

Make soup to stretch the meat.

Lets see lots/millions of people in GA max three week food supply for each home , figure 1 deer or hog killed by people per day means large game will be so scarce if not totaly anihalated with in three weeks! so you wont have to worry, better start getting used to what will be around, Dog (little stringy good for jerky) cat (makes good chinesse) Rat, (kabobs), Squiral (good stew), tweety birds (fried whole),snake
then you get into the other protien meats (BUGS) worms, lizards, la-cockaroch, snails
Fish, crawfish, minnows
Are you still sure you want to push the reset button, this is just the food aspect! Now lets look at the 5th largest army in the world the unorganized american gangs, What you will be looking at is roving gangs consiting of double digits to tripple digit groups moving thru your neighborhoods going house to house scavaging food, DRUGS, guns, ammo, raping, killing, burning what they dont take and you think you and your family can hold off double to tripple digit numbers of people intent on killing you and taking what you have! Add to that other Goverments invading to claim land and natural resources. Mexico from the south russia from the north, chinese and north Korea, Cuba from the south. Add the race isues to the mix. better have a big deeeeeeep hole.

You may want to study how the Creek indians and Cherokees lived. Killing a large game animal takes a lot of effort to process (Almost impossible ALONE) before the flies find their way to your workspace.
Personally, I would avoid large game unless I had a team available to help me in the process. Small game is the way to go....besides if you start smoking a 150 lb Doe chances are someone is going to smell the smoke and food and want to come investigate the potential for handouts.
You would be better off lighting luminaries to your front door.
