I'm looking to get a 64 gun capacity safe to grow into.

Saw this deal come up with the Cannon 64 at Academy ($599+$149 s/h)...and have read mixed reviews on the safe, with some horror stories of the keypad/lock being junk.

Or, looking at a Cabelas/Liberty model. The Outfitter 50 ($1499+$300 s/h). It says it's an online only price, but I might take a ride up to the store to see what I can find.

Obviously there is a big difference in price point and I'm sure....quality too.

Are there any local deals/sales going on for a decent safe that anyone knows of? I'd prefer to buy local if I could.

Anything good at Bargain Barn or Adventure Outdoors?

Look at Gander mt , Cabelas will match there price , shop around a day or 2 and see what you can find, why would you buy a safe that has mixed reviews , pay a few buck extra and buy the Liberty you will not regret it , look for coupons and rebates ,

I don't like Cannon. Anything that big, lightweight and cheap cannot be good. Liberty makes a good safe but I'd only look at the Colonial and above lines. If I had it to do over again, I'd look at Steelwater. They're imported, but the "Xtreme Duty" series seems to be a lot of safe for the money and they offer free curbside delivery. Just my 2 cents.

+1 on Liberty

If you want a good safe the first time, Liberty is the way I would go.

^^^ This

Cabela's will run their safes on sale periodicaly throughout the year. I just bought this one and in the end I got it for a song... This is the Liberty Colonial 50 and this is the cheapest I've seen, trust me, I've watched closely. Great safe, I love it. Comes with door panels, dehumidifier, outlets already installed and a light kit (only 2 wands, not enough but better than nothing). Great value here.

Exactly. I looked at the Cannon safes when I was buying one and noticed they are a lot lighter than other ones of comparable size. My 24 gun Winchester safe weighs as much as that Cannon 64. I think weight is a good indicator of quality.

Yeah - that's the one I linked above. Definitely leaning that way now.

They want $300 for shipping surcharge. Did you buy in store?
