Manning, colts part ways after 14 years.

So how many of us here actually "benefit society"? Do you get up and go to work everyday to "benefit society" or is it because your greedy like the rest of us and want to make money and earn a living? I'm in IT and I am not egotistical enough to think anything I did today will "benefit society".
[/I]

You are using an incorrect premise, the logic doesn't work because you confuse the issue and state that an apple is an orange.
Most people who work are productive in some sense and Do provide a benefit to society through that effort.

There is nothing wrong at all with honest work, even if it's digging a ditch or asking do you want fries with that- it benefits others And ourselves. Not a thing wrong with benefitting ourselves at the same time, is there?
Feel bad for you cadcom if you feel your job does nothing, I am sure whatever IT work you do does benefit others or there would be no need to pay you to do it.

I never said that I feel my job does nothing. I'm actually quit satisfied with where I'm at and what I do and feel I am a productive member of society. I just have to question how you can sit and judge someone using your standards of "benefit to society" when you have no idea what these people do with THEIR money. I'm sure if the NFL shut down tomorrow the world would keep spinning. For some. How about all of the thousands of people that work for the teams, stadiums and contractors. Would they not feel that receiving a paycheck by providing some support services to these lofty millionaire athletes was a direct benefit to their local society? Your statements lean towards socialism and some sort of dreamy utopia where we are all paid equally and live in a harmonic balance regardless of, or in spite of, our contribution to society. All things aren't equal and life isn't fair. Should our public servants and military be paid more? Some of them yes but it should be based on skill set and merit. Not just because they decided to take a job in public service, teaching or join the military.

Over paid or not over paid doesn't really matter. The supply and demand for them by us as consumers is high on the demand side, and there is a small number of them compared to most other professions making them a bog ticket item. They only get paid as much as allow them. If we stopped buying their jerseys, posters cologne , cards, clothing lines, shoes , and all the other trash they sell they would the demand for them would decrease and be more level with the supply bringing down their net worth's and salaries. Regardless I love sports (but football the most ) and will continue too watch them .

Now this Payton Manning issue . Looks like Miami is going to try to acquire him if he will let that 25 million a year price tag drop and he passes a physical . I wouldn't pay too much for any 36 year old QB who is on his way out and has serious neck issues. He is a major upgrade for Miami though .
