I’ve got a Mega Arms 18” 308 barrel that I need to get a BCG for it. It’s my understanding that the AR10/308 platform isn’t as standardized as the AR15, so I can’t buy just any 308 BCG and use it with my barrel.

According to Mega’s website the barrel has an SR25/DPMS barrel extension, but I’ve looked around online a little bit for BCGs and I’m not seeing many that say SR25 or DPMS in the description. Most just say “308” or “AR10”

These things aren’t cheap so I need to make sure I get the right one.

Any info you guys can give me would be much appreciated.

I have a 16” Mega 308 barrel. When I was shopping for BCG’s I read that Mega recommends Lantac and RCA (Rubber City Armory). The RCA was out of stock and I felt the lantac was a little to pricey. If money is not an issue, JP would be the way to go.

Others that I looked at were:

Rainier Arms - Fair Price ($225) and they will head space it to your barrel if you send it to them.

Aero Precision - Read that they had issues at one point and didn’t want to take a chance.

I ended up buy a BCG from Dawn of Defense when I went in to have my Aero M5 Lower transferred. It is fluted/nitrided and head spaced properly. They are a local shop for me and are really good guys.

Good luck with the search!

Good info! Thanks!

I’ve bought a few things from Rainier Arms before, but had no idea you could ship them your barrel to have the head space checked with the BCG you’re buying. Very good to know.

I’ve got all my parts except for the gas block, gas tube and BCG.

What gas block did you go with for your Mega barrel?

I used a Seekins I had laying around that I didn’t have plans for. If I was buying one, I would probably get an SLR. I like the no set screw design.

You definitely want an adjustable Gas Block, as the 308 AR’s can be over gassed easily, especially with the mid length gas system.

I stayed with a basic Odin Works Low Profile 0.750 Gas Block ($29), thinking I would swap to an adjustable only if needed. Used a WMD Nitromet Mid-Length Gas Tube ($18.69). With my BA barrel and BCG, with the right carbine buffer (heavier @3.8 ounces and short @2.5 inches), mine runs flawlessly.

BangBang BangBang - For my MATEN, I went with the Toolcraft TC10BCGNIB to pair with my Ballistic Advantage 308 Modern Series 16 Government Barrel. So far, no issues at all with the BCG, plus it is moderately priced at $139.99.

I actually looked at the nitride Toolcraft bolt on that same website. It’s the same as the one in the link you posted, but with a different finish. I just didn’t know if it would work with my barrel because it doesn’t say anything about “SR25” or “DPMS” in the description. It just says “Platform: AR10”

I looked up the specs on your Ballistic Advantage barrel and it says it’s a DPMS style, so I *guess* my barrel should work with any BCG that works with yours.

The bases for all of my parts/pieces, including mags, is and has been SR25 and DPMS style, and I have had no issues in fitment. I emailed Jeff at Monmouth Reloading before ordering; he confirmed my Toolcraft BCG and BA barrel pairing were good to go, and both were highly recommended manufacturers.
