Can you put a .223 upper on a MP15-22 lower? Are uppers pretty much interchangeable like that?

I am 99% sure that you can't, but someone will be along to verify.
No, the 15-22 is designed for only that specific upper.
The dimensions are different looks like it will but Damn...
No it will not, while the mp-15-22 will accept any ar 15 lower parts, there is no buffer tube on the 15-22, just a look alike buffer tube.

Go for a dedicated upper and skip on the 15-22, IMO. It's nicer to have a real weight AR-15.

I was about to say the same..gives you the option of poppin on a 5.56, 300blk, etc upper and use the same lower

LOL I'll put my pink 15-22 against any conversion and dedicated upper
I've ran that thing hard as hell, dirty as hell, and keeps ticking like a rolex. Can't say I've heard the same about many conversions.

Mine is no conversion and I run the hell out of it with no problems. No hate for the 15-22, I just don't dig the plastic threads on it and I like the ability to put different uppers on especially when my SBR stamp comes back.
