Need help! 1978 302

Well like anything with old age, it goes bad, my 302 needs rebuilt but, yet I have a 289 sitting, that runs as pretty as you've ever seen, just curious as to if the firecracker 289 will have the same bolt pattern on the bell housing as a 302 would, only 16 year old, still learning about this stuff please help! Any information is greatly appreciated.

Depends on the age of the motors and trans. The 289 used to have its own bolt pattern and then later on they changed it to match the 302.

You maybe can get the VIN# and contact FORD, they should be able to give you some info. Good luck, on fixing your prized car
up. They were really a great car.

Should be the same but depends on what year each one is


The is a casting number near the starter on the block that when decoded will tell what year it is

I wouldn't expect to get much Info from a stealership

Should be plenty on the Internet though


The water pumps may have the outlet on a different side
Depending on what vehicle they are in

You bolting it to a manual or a auto ?

Whatever vehicle you have. There is probably a Internet site dedicated to that vehicle.
