Private Parties Gifting a Handgun Across State Line

Yes. If any firearm changes possession between state residents of different states, a FFL transfer in the receiving residents state is required.


I suppose you could transfer a long gun through a FFL in either state.

So, if you & Mom want to avoid using an FFL dealer for this transaction
you have to die and leave it to your mom in your will
or as in inheritance.

I think I'd pay the $30 fee.

the easiest answer is Yes you have to use a FFL.

One thing with it being your mom is you might be able to get away with letting her "borrow" your pistol or just wanting to leave one of your firearms at your parents place, but again safest and easiest thing would to just use an ffl
