When I buy a S&W, I like to know the serial number to look up the shipping date. However, I do not need the acutal serial number, if it is a 6 digit serail number all I need is something like this: 9K34XX. I even ask them not to give the the actual serial number. Blocking the serial number is like locking your house, it just keeps honest people honest.
