Complete fallacy in almost every civilian context.
The "fight" is started by surprise by one or more attackers in very close quarters when the "long gun" is nowhere close by.
Even many L.E. don't have the time or ability to get to the one in their car in most instances.
the key word is almost
When you are out in the public, where is that long gun kept? More than likely, in your vehicle. Statistically, the fight will be long over before you can get to your vehicle and access your long gun.
I agree that most long guns are better than most handguns in a fight, but statistically you will start and end the fight with your handgun, and only use the rounds that were in it at the start of the fight........usually, not all of those.
