Beretta A300, even though the sights are very good, a red dot may be a little quicker. Have dots on several pistols, no problem with a transition. Trying to keep price around 350 or so, I know that culls the high end stuff.

Nothing is faster than pointing. Putting a sight on a shotgun is usually retarding. If you can already use a shotgun well for wingshooting, try timing yourself on headshots on a silhouette style target. You can probably place your shots accurately and faster than by aiming.
Vortex has come pretty good dedicated shotgun RDS's. I've been looking at them as well as the Defender line of RDS's for my pistols.
Point shooting is useful for SD situations, but not for all of them. No reason why one can't place shotgun slugs accurately at 100yds, and point shooting won't do that. You'll need some decent sights, or some sort of optic. To not have good sights and/or an optic on a SD shotgun will greatly limit it's overall effectiveness.
