SHTF preparedness

I keep around 1000 rds of 45, 30-06, 7.62x39, and 12 ga. I figure the 9mm and 308s will be abundantly available no matter what happens. I also keep reloading supplies for most of my calibers. I figure worst case scenario, I'll load what I need and barter for what I can.

Everyone should keep in mind that all of this stuff we're talking about might save your body, but there's only one way to take care of your soul.

B.I.B.L.E Finding a good church and gett'n right with God should be on the top of your list. After that, all's good.

If this kind of stuff is something you would like to learn about go to the General Discussion forum and vote fore the Survival forum.

Just a thought for those consolidating calibers..... If in fact your ammo dump runs out, wouldn't it be much easier to have multiple calibers? In that instance you would have more options to trade or scavenge for(depending on the crisis). Just a thought

I went through a socio-economic collapse in 1994 - we woke up one morning in April to find that the country we knew, was gone. Replaced by a socialist government. The currency plummeted and a lot of folks were laid off because of new AA laws.
The folks that lived through that period, took the following precautions:
1. No Debt.
2. Paid for car and house/ property.
3. Stored foods, med supplies, guns and ammo.
4. Serious security around the house. Mostly 2 large dogs outside and 2 small ones inside. Razor wire on the walls and bars in the windows. Steel re-enforced doors. Alarm system was a waste. They are in the house before it goes off.

Things normalized fast and the ones that kept their jobs were able to go buy food again after the initial scare...but it is going downhill fast now - the masses figured out that the govt have been feeding them a bunch of lies. Crime is the number 1 fear.
Once the economy tanks to a certain point, we'll start seeing a new type of criminal here (in the USA). The brutality of the crimes will surpass anything we've seen to date - prepare for that now, so you won't have to deal with it later when you are tired, broke and hungry. Dogs, razor wire and bars on the windows have saved my bacon on more than one occasion - it gives you the time you need to get firepower on target.

Calibers?
.22lr
9x19
5.56x45
7.62x51
12ga

In that order. Don't bother trading guns and ammo - if the govt is still in place, they'll punish any form of firearms ownership severely, so keep .22lr subsonics and suppressors for small game hunting. A GOOD subsonic .22lr round will kill antelope up to 150 lbs at close range.
Get firearms that are good quality pieces. Make sure that parts are available and keep magazines on hand. I try to keep 10 rifle magazines and 5 pistol magazines for each of my 9mm's and 5.56's. .22lr's, 12ga and 7.62x51 firearms: I tend to stick to revolvers, tube mags or internal magazines with those. Less to keep track of. Something as simple as a Heritage Rough Rider revolver is worth its weight in gold!

It never got to the point where we had to forage or hunt to eat exclusively. We had a few times that we had to figure out what we were going to put on top of rice or porridge and had to get creative in the garden - but there was always something to eat.

Ok, long post - nothing going on at work :D
I'm completely prepared now - at least I feel like it - but there comes a time when you have to realize that your time is up. When the house is surrounded by zombies and you have 5 rounds left in your pistol - 5.56 brass and empty 12ga shells laying all about your feet. Take out the family and yourself while playing the Beer Song at full blast... :D

For more immediate survival needs, I keep a bail out bag in the car. Food, water, fire, shelter, firearm, first aid kit, etc., enough for 2 people for 3 days. Enough to get home and load up on the rest of the emergency supplies to get the hell out of the city.

I tend to always float back to these calibers; .45 acp, 7.62x51, 12 gauge, 7.62x39, 22lr. I have a very scandalous love affair with 1911's so extra parts will be a must for me. I currently have 20 mags between my 2 1911's, around 12 mags for my AK, only six mags for my AR-10(I guess I should get more). 25 moonclips for my 325ng. My thing is I need to pile more ammo up. I have several bail out bags, and a few different scenario plans.

I'm seriously considering another rifle purchase. I've got it narrowed down to two choices. A RPK with heavy barrel or an AK74, any suggestions or comments?

I am glad that everyone on here is letting everyone else know what they have. I am not a skeptic but with how easy it is to read peoples IP address and get peoples physical address nowadays I wont take a chance on it. I am all about being prepared. I am still constantly working on my survival boxes. I think that a survival box should be something that is waterproof and can float. Needs to have wheels on it too. If gas runs out you wont be able to push a car around. If power goes out you cant charge up your golf cart. Food with a shelf life of over a year. I have found through training that its not necessarily the skills of one in a survival game but of a community. If you have 8-10 people you can rely on and trust to assist you in sustaining life it will make it alot easier. You can task work alot easier. Finding a place with a renewable water resource close by is crucial. We all know the old saying about living without food vs. water. Anywho..
