Suppressor alignment rods from McMaster-Carr

Quick, easy and cheap.

These are “Tight-Tolerance Oil-Hardening (or Multipurpose) O1 Tool Steel Rod”.

A 3” 6.5mm was $6.62 while the 5.56 was $5.66. At that length, you can cut 2 or 3 alignment rods out of a single rod, depending upon the length of your can and how long you want it to be.

I’m shopping for my first suppressor now. A .22 rimfire, what size rod do I need to order? Will the 5.56 work?

I have used different methods.

Shop band saw for me. I support the weight of the saw..go slow and keep the pressure light.
Two people helps alot no matter how you do it.

The main thing is don't put a lot of pressure on the rod.

To much pressure in a vice...the weight of a band saw...vibration from a sawz all ..ect.

I have cut them a bit longer as well just in case I bend one...I also smooth the ends on a grinder and wire wheel.

These can reveal some ugly truth about barrel alignment concentricity or mounts.

They are worth the money.

I recommend getting some alignment rods whether you make them or buy them from a vendor ready to go.

Check them all versus multiple straight edges like a level..marble counter top or a run out gauge in a machine shop.
