The Most Durable Truck In The World...

I actually imported several of the Toyota 1KZT turbo Diesel engines

And transplanted them into 4 runners

I bought the entire 4 runners on eBay UK and had a mechanic there remove the engine trans and transfer case and differentials .
And I gave him the rest of the car for his effort .

The 1KZT is mechanically injected , with zero computers .

I had to call them “used auto parts “ to get through customs .

Now you can import the entire car since they are 25 years old ,

It’s an easy swap
I removed the gasoline V6 and automatic trans and t case and sold them
And bolted the Diesel engine and five speed and transfer case in and swapped the diffs .

The top gear episode where they tried to kill the Hilux by dunking it in the ocean overnight and setting it on top of the tall building that got demolished , and then setting it on fire for five minutes , was my first exposure to the origional BBC Top Gear .

And man was that a great show !
Mrs Roundhouse cares nothing about cars but she loved to watch the shows for the humor and pranks .

I’m pretty sure I’ve now seen every episode before the guys got booted from BBC.

I’ve driven a few Hilux and Land Cruisers in my lifetime, both up-armored and soft skin, and I can personally attest to their durability. I rolled one three times down an embankment in Iraq and landed right side up; drove it back to the firebase. I was two trucks behind the convoy leader which took a fairly heavy IED explosion. When I ran up (medic), it was still running though the passenger had expired. They were always that classic white colored, with the occasiona one having some red graphics on the sides. We used to take a mop and a water can out to the burn pit and mix up some mud and “camouflage” them in mud; occasionally we’d rattle can them. They were truly a privilege to drive.

I said the same. And I have watched the video twice.
What an awesome little truck!!!
Once a cehicle is 25 years old it can be imported no matter what the emissions or safety regs claim. When I worked at the Brunswick port there was a small fenced off lot next to my company's laod line ( outgoing) lot that belonged to U.S Customs. It always had all the cool , exotic and antique stuff waiting to be cleared and picked up.
I dig these Taliban Toyota trucks too. And there is a very good reason why they are popular in the thord world.
Before the Ranger was rereleased a few years ago my company had a lot full of them waiting to go out of the country. Most were regular cabs and manual transmissions. Better than that they all had 4WD badges and diesel engines. That's the one I would want. Not the over priced over optioned gas Ranger we get over here. What's the point in a small truck that's close to $40K ?

Didn't have Hilux money at the time, so in 2010 bought a 2004 Ford Courier 5speed 4x4 with a 2.5L diesel turbo in it. Not quite a Hilux but an awesome truck comparable in size to the Hilux, I'd buy one over here in a heartbeat if I could. Think it was mostly rebadged Mazda with a Ford sticker slapped on.

Sounds like an awesome finished product. So was the auto to manual pedal setup the pain in the ass I imagine it had to be?
