According to the AJC article, you would be able to carry on campuses, but you could be fined if caught? What's up with that?
The board of regents is a political power mover and shaker. This is a baby step. Like Lax said, attaching campus carry would have killed it in the senate.
But it's such a grey area. If I go visit my girlfriend at grad school, could I be detained, have my weapon confiscated, just get a ticket? Are you saying it's a GA board of regents rule, but not a criminal charge?

Did you ask your girlfriend whether or not she cares if you bring your gun to visit her? Sounds like it's not your campus, but hers and she'll be the one dealing with any questions or harassment. This is less a question about rights and more about your relationship. If my girl works in a white collar office, I'm not gonna pick her up for lunch in Red Wings and Overalls. Just something to think about.
I particularly liked during today's events when a Rep opposed to the bill asked about the fine. He asked why not make it $5, $10, or $20. Several of the arguments against the bill were not only seeped in misinformation, but were laughable.
I don't really follow anything that you said, but I'm pretty sure it's not about our relationship. I just looked up HB875 and found the answer myself.
1) It is still illegal to carry on campus. But,
A) if you have a GWL it is a misdemeanor and you can be fined no more than $100.
B) if you don't have a GWL then it's a felony and punishment is much worse.
Based on the AJC article it said, "HB 875 would also make it no longer a crime for permit holders to carry weapons onto college campuses."
Leave it to them to state a misdemeanor is no longer a crime. Someone needs to email the writer.

(2)(A)Any license holder who violates this subsection in or on any real property owned by or leased to any public or private elementary or secondary school or school board and used for elementary or secondary education or in or on the campus of any private technical school, vocational school, college, university, or other institution of postsecondary education shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
(B) Any license holder who violates this subsection in or on the campus of any public technical school, vocational school, college, university, or other institution of postsecondary education shall not be arrested but shall be fined not more than $100.00. Such fine shall be remitted to the local jurisdiction where the offense occurred.
(C) Any person who is not a license holder who violates this subsection shall be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction thereof, be punished by a fine of not more than $10,000.00, by imprisonment for not less than two nor more than ten years, or both.Perhaps the difference is if you go to a private or public college.
