UPDATED with the end result. Replacing a Ford 5.4 in a 2005 F150

Well, I went the route of a new remanufactured motor, price was $10,500 installed with a 4 year unlimited mile warranty.
I've only had it back a few days but it drives great. So I have $15K in it , is it worth anything close to that ?

Would be hard to find another one in good shape for $15k. Trust me, I just finished looking everywhere for the last 2 weeks.

If you drive it for that warranty period (and more), and the truck serves you well, it's worth it.

In a world where people are dropping 7k plus for lawn mowers and 12k plus for base model side by sides and 50k plus for entry level 1/4 ton pickups I’d say you are ahead of the game in a excellent condition 4x4 lariat with a warrantied zero mileage engine! You can sleep good at night, at least I would! Don’t forget the UAW just went on strike so if that lasts for good little bit, current/future auto lot inventory will probably increase in price again!?!?

Yep....even if the engine wasn't seized it would have been about 12k+ running so you're probably only 2500 over market....but now have a brand new engine for basically $2500 or less net!

In this market, you could probably sell it for at least 15k, good move IMO.

My "06 had 200k on it when a tree fell on it in 2020 (pre-crazy market). 2wd Lariat and insurance paid me just over 10k. All I ever did was change oil&filter, air filter, fuel filter, and plugs, tires and brakes and it was still running like new.

Best truck I've ever had.
