A pot is good. the tarp will trap gallons of water if tied off correctly. Think about those canopies at the beach when it rains two sides alway fill with tons of water.

I think a fishing line and hook would save your life on an island. You could make the rest.

We need to know more about this island! I was assuming there was water on.the island I would purify in my pot. If you need to catch rain water what the hell am I purifying?
