Why are AKs so expensive now?

The only way an AK or SKS will ever be fairly priced is if the seller gave it away for free.

AK was never a cheap gun. The purchasing power of the $USD is not what it was 30 years ago. Import laws have hampered supply. Changing opinions about the plaform have increased demand. The cost to invest in tooling and materials needed to make stuff here doesn't help either.

Quality costs money. ARs are cheap cuz mattel makes 'em.

Lots of factors. Certain countries that could import large volumes of AKs are now banned from doing so. A larger interest in the platform. Inflation. More people buying firearms. Better QC control on AK products. A huge aftermarket that didnt exist 6-7 years ago. Affordable ammo. Historical interest due to the wide range of countries and series models.

#1 factor, AKs are the lord of war.
