My favorite is a Winchester Model 54 in 280. It weighs a lot, which makes it fun to shoot but not to carry. A CZ 550 is in the same boat. A Winchester Model 70 Featherweight that groups halfway decent seems nearly ideal.

Going off OP criteria, I think they fit.too fancy for Elmer Fudd.....
By that definition all my hunting guns are Fudd guns.Blue finish, walnut(Wood) stock pre 1990ish. Just about an extinct species in today's gun shop. No Turkistan plastic disposable gun. If someone would like to add their definition, they're more then welcome.

I have one chambered in 30/06, topped with an older Bushnell 1.5-4x32 scope. It’s my #2 Fudd gun.I don't own a gun like this currently-- but I would really like to have this Fuddesque classic hunting rifle:
the Remington 760 pump action probably in .308.
It should have a fixed WEAVER four power scope (4X) with a 32 mm front lens, and a very generous eye box in the back
(so head placement is not critical to get a full, clear view).
I prefer pump action repeating rifles to lever actions, since I have a ton of experience with pump action shotguns.
